1. What is the eighth commandment?
Thou shalt not steal.
2. What principle is given us in this command?
The sanctity of private property.
3. What does God forbid in this commandment?
Any theft of my neighbor’s property.
4. What are the duties commanded in the eighth commandment?
Labor and industry, honesty and fidelity in our dealings, contentment with our lot, kindness and liberality to our neighbor.
Ephesians 4:1-2 — Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love
Heidelberg Catechism - 54Q. What do you believe concerning the “holy catholic church”?
A. I believe that the Son of God through his Spirit and Word…gathers, protects, and preserves himself a community chosen for eternal life and united in true faith……
1. What is the seventh commandment?
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
2. What does God forbid in this commandment?
Any thought or action that violates the sanctity of the sexual relationship.
3. What does God require in this commandment?
To enjoy the sexual relationship within the bounds of marriage.
4. What is marriage?
An inseparable union of love between one man and one woman.
5. For what purpose has God instituted marriage?
For the happiness of married persons, for the propagation of the human race, and for the raising up of Godly children.
2 Corinthians 5:5 — He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
Heidelberg Catechism 53Q. — What do you believe concerning “the Holy Spirit”?
A. First, the Spirit… is eternal God. Second, he is given also to me, so that, through true faith he… comforts me, and will remain with me forever.

2. What is forbidden in this commandment?
Murder, suicide, unust war, and the hatred which leads to them.
3. Who alone has a right to take human life?
The magistrate who bears the sword for the punishment of evildoers.
4. Why are we forbidden to destroy human life?
Because every human is made in the image of God.
5. What duties are required in the sixth commandment?
That we regard the life of every person as sacred.
